BOM Quilt Block – August, Step by Step Tutorial

1 How To Prepare The Applique Fabric Pieces To Make The Quilt Block

Download and print the Free Pattern, with a pair of scissors to cut paper, cut out all the paper templates.

Take one paper template at a time and place it on the back of the fabric, pinch two or three pins, and cut the fabric 1/4 inch bigger than the paper template, the 1/4 inch is for the seam.

Fold the seam to the back, and make a basting stitching all around the piece.

Follow the same steps to prepare all the pieces needed for the BOM Quilt Block of August.

Note: When there is a curved side on any paper template, make some small cuts on the seam, by doing this, it will be easier for you to fold to the back the seam and do the basting stitches.

2 How To Do The Applique On The BOM Quilt Of The Month – August

Lay the block on your work table and fold it in the middle, lengthwise and finger press the middle line, open the block and take the piece for the sand and fold it in the middle, finger press the middle line and place this piece on the block, match the middle lines on the block and on the piece for the sand, pinch two or three pins.

Now you can work on the applique stitching all around the edge of the piece, when this step is finished, you can turn the block on its back, and with a pair of scissors with a pointed point, cut out the fabric of the block on the back of this piece, remove the paper template.

Turn to the front the block and lay over it the piece for the beach hut, it should have the middle line pressed, as this will help you to center the piece, pinch a few pins and do the applique, when the piece is all applique, turn the block with its back up, and cut out the fabric on the back of this piece and remove the paper template.

Keep working on the applique of the rest of the fabric pieces, when the piece is two small, just make a cut on the back on the block fabric to remove the paper template.

On the image below, you can take a look how the block of the month of August looks like on the back, it shows how I cut the fabric of the block after I did the applique of each piece to remove the paper template.

When you cut out the fabric of the block, it will help you to work on the quilting with ease as it won’t be multiple layers of fabric in one stop, which will make it very hard for hand quilting.
