Country Christmas Mini Quilt Pattern
This week, the tutorial is to make the top of the quilt with 5 pieces of different fabrics in white and beige, you will find also the instructions to work on the applique and the embroidery of the first block, the rest of the tutorials will be here on the blog soon.
1 Cut All Your Fabrics
The Country Christmas Mini Quilt is a tutorial thinking on using fabrics you might already have, as the pieces are not big and can be any in white or beige to give the mini quilt the country touch.
You can find the measures of each block on the image below, lay all the pieces on your work table as it’s shown on the image.
2 How To Sew On The Top For The Mini Quilt
Stitch on the blocks on each strip: left and right, 1/4 inch seam allowance, press
Sew on one strip to the other, open and press.
3 How To Sew On The Borders
You will need to cut:4 strips of fabric of 14 x 1 1/2 inches.
Sew on the two strips on the sides of the top of the mini quilt, open and press, sew on the strip of fabric on the top and on the bottom of the mini quilt, press.

With the help of a pair of scissors for cutting paper, cut out the three paper templates.
5 Prepare The Applique Pieces.
Take one paper template at a time, and place it on the back of the fabric you will be using for the Christmas socks, pinch a pin or make a few big basting stitches, with a pair of scissors for cutting fabric, cut the fabric with the same shape of the sock adding 1/4 inch for the seam.
Make some cuts on the seam, and fold the seam to the back of the paper template, do some basting stitches to keep the seam on the back, this will help you to work on the applique with ease.
Prepare the other two Christmas socks pieces the same way.
6 How To Do The Christmas Socks Applique.
You will need to draw with a pencil for fabric the line where the socks are hang, to do this step, place the paper pattern under the top of the quilt, and draw the line and the laces with a pencil. Remove the paper pattern from under the top of the mini quilt.
Now you can place the three Christmas socks on the block, follow the image below to see how I did this step, pinch a pin on each Christmas socks.
I would recommend replacing the pin with two or three basting stitches, I find this way the applique pieces stay better on its place while I work on the applique.
Now you can do the applique of the three socks.
When the applique is finished, remove all the basting stitches, and make a small cut on the block fabric on the back of each sock, remove the paper template from each sock.
7 How To Do The Embroidery On The Christmas Socks Block
With a pencil draw the lines for the point and the heel on each sock.
The embroidery work on this block is made with embroidery floss on the color of each sock.
- Back Stitch – Point and heel lines – one thread of embroidery floss
- Sand Stitching – On the point and the heel – one thread of embroidery floss
- Chain stitching – On the top of each sock
- Back Stitching – Line and bows
