On this tutorial, I’m working with two patchwork blocks made with the Crumb Quilt pattern, you can make these two blocks with the same quilting pattern or any pattern you like.
Materials and Supplies
- 2 Patchwork blocks of 7 x 7 inches
- 2 pieces of fabric for the back of 8 x 8 inches, it can be flannel or any fabric you have at home.
- 2 pieces of thin batting fabric of 8 x 8 inches (optional)
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Rotary cutter, quilting ruler, cutting mat.
- Pins
- Hand sewing needle
- Polyester Thread
- Embroidery thread (Perle)
- 1 Snap Brooch
1 – Cut All Your Fabrics
I’m working on this tutorial with two blocks made with the Crumb Quilt pattern, at home, you can work on this tutorial with any Quilt block pattern you have already made.
I’m working on this tutorial with two blocks of 7 x 7 inches, at home you can change the measures in case, you want to make the scissors case bigger or smaller. (8 x 8 or 6 x 6 or 9 x9 inches)
2 – Stitch On The Two Blocks
Put on your work table the two pieces of fabric for the back, lay over them the two blocks with their pretty side down, pinch a few pins.
In case your making this project using batting fabric, put it under the two layers of fabric.
Stitch on the four sides of each piece and don’t forget to leave an opening in one side (1 1/2 inch) to turn each piece out.
When the stitching is done, trim the fabric for the back (and the batting fabric) the same size as the patchwork block, and trim each corner diagonally.
Turn out each piece and push the corners out from the inside, you can do this step with your finger tips or with a round point pair of scissors.
Ladder stitching to close each piece.
3 – How To Do The Quilting
It’s time to work on the quilting on each piece, I did it by hand, but you can decide whether to make it by hand or with Free Motion Quilting.
4 – How To Make The Easy Patchwork Scissor Case
Put both quilted pieces on your work table, and take one. This step should be done by hand sewing stitching.
Take two of the corners to the center and make a couple of small stitches, take the third corner to the center and make two stitches.
Stitch on both sides.
5 – How To Stitch On The Block #2 To The Easy Patchwork Scissor Case
Take the block #2, with its pretty side down, and place it over the first block, image below.
One of the corners should meet the center of the block #1, make two small stitches to stitch together the four corners, now you can continue stitching one side at a time.
When you get to the middle point, fold that side down and turn the case to the other side, continue stitching to meet the center. Work the same way in both sides.
6 – How To Do The Embroidery The Patchwork Scissors Case
Turn out the Scissors Case and you will notice the lines of the two blocks where you sew from the inside, these lines looks like open, this is why, you need to do some embroidery stitching to cover these lines.
With the embroidery thread (perle) do the herringbone embroidery stitch to cover the lines of the union of the two blocks, at the same time that these embroidery stitches will cover these lines, they will give more strength to the scissors case.
7 – How To Finish The Patchwork Scissors Case
Do the buttonhole stitch on the edge of the open case, and sew on the snap brooch.
How To Make A Small Patchwork Bag.
In case, you don’t want to make a scissors case as this project is pretty to be used like that, you always can add a strap to it to make a small bag, to carry your smart phone and other small things with you.
