For this tutorial, you need a quilted piece of 8 1/2 x 19 inches, you can follow the tutorial where I shared the steps to make a Hand Quilting Quilt block here.
1. Cut Your Fabrics
To make the external pocket you will need:
- 2 pieces of cotton 100% fabric, any color, of 7 x 8 1/2 inches

Print out the free pattern and cut out the paper templates with the help of a pair of scissors for cutting paper.
Trace each paper template on a piece of fabric, cut out each piece adding 1/4 inch for the seam, the applique of each piece will be done with the needle turn method.
Lay one piece of fabric for the external pocket on your work table, and lay all the applique pieces on it, pin each applique piece on the fabric, do the applique of each piece.
3. How To Do The Embroidery
Place the piece of fabric with the applique on an embroidery hoop, the embroidery on this piece will be done with the decorative stitches:

- Spider stitching – round flower center
- French knots – round flower
- Satin stitch – Big flower
- Back stitch – flower on the right
4. How To Sew On The External Pocket
Lay the applique and embroidered piece on your work table, pretty side up, lay over it the second piece of fabric, pretty side down, pin both pieces of fabric together, and sew on the top side on your sewing machine, 1/4 inch for the seam allowance.
Open the piece and press the seam, turn one piece to the back and press again the seam. Pin the two pieces of fabric and do a light hand quilting.
Fold the two pieces of fabric 1/2 inch on the bottom to the back and press.
Lay on your work table the quilted piece for the bag, pretty side up, and lay the piece for the external pocket over the quilted piece, 1 inch up from the middle line on the quilted piece for the bag. Both pieces should be pretty sides up.
Open the piece for the external pocket, without losing the place where it should be stitched on, pinch two pins to hold the piece on its place and sew on the external pocket to the quilted piece for the bag, Remove the pins and take the piece up and pinch two pins to hold the external pocket on its place.

Push the bottom 1/2 inch inside and pinch a pin on each side, to hold the fold on its place.
