Quilt Block Of The Month January

Quilt Block Of The Month January is an easy block to make with applique and some hand embroidery any quilter will love to make!

January is a cold month here in Canada, we use to get lots of snow and you can often see happy snowmen everywhere!

Temperatures goes low and we use to get lots of snow, but some birds stay all winter here and we love to give them some sunflower seeds to help them to stay well feed during the long and cold Canadian’s winter.

This is why I thought about designing for this quilt,  the block of the month for January with a cute snowman and his best friend, one little bird, I hope you have lots of fun making it as much as I had.

Materials and Quilting Supplies You Will Need

Quilt Block Of The Month January Step by Step Tutorial

Step 1 – Download and Print The Quilt Block Of The Month January FREE Pattern

Download and print your free pattern, make an extra copy from the page with the templates, so you can cut out all the paper templates you will need to make this new block for the quilt, and you can save one copy in case you want to make a new quilt later.

Cut out all the paper templates with a scissors for paper.

Step 2 – Cut Out The Fabric Pieces To Make The Applique

On the first tutorial to make the Quilt Block Of The Month you can find the instructions to cut out the fabric piece to make the block and the borders. Follow the instructions to make the block for this month. Press.

You need to lay every paper template on the back of each fabric for each piece, pinch a pin or make one or two basting stitches to hold both pieces together (fabric and paper template). Cut out each fabric piece adding the 1/4 inch for the seam.

Fold the seam to the back and press with your fingers to give the template shape to each fabric piece, in case there is any curved seam on the piece, make small cuts with a pair of scissors to help you to fold to the back better the seams.

Once you get all the pieces ready, you can follow the pattern to lay on the block all the pieces.

Pinch a few pins to hold the pieces to the applique on the block, start with the pieces that go first, do the hand applique.

When all the big pieces are appliqued, you can cut out the block fabric from the back of each piece, don’t forget to leave 1/4 inch for the seam.

You can keep working on the applique of all small pieces that go on the big pieces.
