Quilt Block Of The Month – July is an easy sewing and embroidery tutorial to make a quilt block with applique and embroidery.
Quilt Block Of The Month – July
July is a month than comes with nice weather and many love to visit a nice place for a few days or for the weekend, nothing better than spending a couple of days in a cute camper.
For this month, I’ve designed a block with a camper than has it all, a pretty flower and a butterfly!
1 – Download The PDF Free Pattern For The Quilt Block Of The Month for July
You can download the free pattern here, and make two copies from it, one to keep it in case you want to make it later and one copy to cut out all the paper templates to make this block.
With scissors for cutting paper, cut out all the paper templates.
2 – How To Prepare All The Fabric Pieces
To make this quilt block, you will need one piece of the block of the month, and some cotton fabrics in different color and patterns, hand sewing thread, embroidery floss DMC in brown, and your sewing and quilting tools.
Take one paper template in your hands, beginning with the paper templates bigger in size, lay each template on the back of the fabric and pinch a couple of pins or safety pins.
With a pair of scissors to cut fabric, cut out each piece from the fabric adding 1/4 inch for the seam allowance.
Fold back the seam allowance and make basting stitches all along each piece.
3 – How To Prepare The Block Of The Month To Work On The Applique
Take the free pattern with the full design for this block, and place it under the block of the month with the borders, you can trace the design on the fabric with the help of a pencil for fabrics, or just keep the pattern under the fabric to help you to place each piece in its place.
Pinch two or three pins or safety pins on each piece and do a few basting stitches to keep the piece in its place, remove the pins or the safety pins.
You can start working on the applique of each piece at a time, as when you work on big pieces such as the camper, the roof, the door and the wheel, you can cut out the fabric from the block from the back to remove the paper template from each piece.
Continue working on the applique of the different pieces, your block of the month should look like the image below.
4 – How To Do The Blanket Stitch On The Block Of The Month
With a single thread of embroidery floss in you needle, work with the blanket stitch all around the edge of each piece.
6 – How To Do The Embroidery Of The Block Of The Month
On this block, you will need to work on the embroidery on:
- Back stitch – butterfly antennas, flower stem, window lines, roof lines. 2 strands of embroidery floss.
- Satin stitch – butterfly’s body, flower. 3 strands of embroidery floss.
The Quilt Block Of The Month Of July is finished and it looks very nice.
