One bag is never enough and today I will tell you how to make a patchwork bag made of squares, easy and fun to make, I’m sure it will be your favorite to carry with you and your cell phone, some money, and a few more small things!
This patchwork bag will become your favorite and I’m sure your friends will ask you to make one for them!
What you will need to make this patchwork bag:
2 pieces of cotton 100% fabric for the inside of the bag of 8 x 10″
2 pieces of thin batting fabric of 8 x 10 ”
1 zipper of 6″ for the bag (color should match the fabrics you will use to make it)
1 zipper of 6″ for the bag in the inside of the bag, the color of the zipper should match the fabric.
1 piece of fabric the same fabric for the inside of the bag of 4 x 7″
1 piece of fabric of 1 3/4 x 7″ (same fabric for the inside of the bag)
24 squares from different fabrics of 2 x 2″
A few strips of fabric of 7″ long x different width.
Bias for the bag, 1 3/4 x 45″
1 piece of 2″ wide x the length that you need to make the strap for the bag. The length of the strap will be as long you need to make it, as I’m not a tall person I need a certain length, but if you’re a tall person you need to measure yourself to get the length of it.
You also will need to work on this project:

Video
I speak in Spanish in the video, but you can watch it and follow the steps I write for you in English here on my blog.
Step by step tutorial.
Step 1
With the help of the cutting mat, the ruler, and the rotary cutter cut the 24 squares.
Make 6 lines of 4 squares each one, sew together 5 lines, press.
With the 6th line of 4 squares you will make the back part of the bag, sew the strips of fabric to the line of squares, it should be as big as the block you made with the squares. Press.
Step 2
Make the two quilting sandwich.
Step 3
You can take a look on how the two parts for the bag looks like when the quilting sandwiches are made. #1 is for the front of the bag and #2 is for the back of the bag.
Step 4
You can make the quilting by machine or by hand, it will look great either way!.
I like to make the quilting by hand and I use the DMC embroidery floss to make it.
Step 5
To make the inside bag, you need to sew the piece of fabric for it to the zipper and sew the bias for the zipper on the other side of the zipper.
Step 6
Download the FREE pattern and print it out, cut the pattern and place it on each one of the parts of the bag and with the help of a pencil for fabric trace the shape of the bag on each one of the pieces.
Step 7
Make a running stitch all around on the pencil mark. Once you finish doing the running stitch on both parts of the bag, trim each part, leave a 1/8″ for the seam.
Step 8
Place one part of the bag on the other part, and place the bias all around the edge and pin it.
Step 9
Sew the bias to the bag with the sewing machine. You can trim the zipper on this step.
Step 10
Fold the bias and close it by hand or with the sewing machine. (I did mine by hand)
Step 11
Bias should look like this when you finish sewing it to close it.
Step 12
Do the same to sew the bias on the bag opening.
Step 13
Fold to close the bias on the bag opening.
Step 14
On this step you need to sew the zipper in the bag opening.
Step 15
Make the strap for the bag, and sew it to the bag on the back of the bag, place each end of the strap on each side in the top of the bag and make a few stitches to sew it in the bag.
